Croatian medal collection

Everything started in ex-Yugoslavia with European cadet bronze medal won by Damir Pejic in Paris 1989. Two years consecutive Dzezimir Muratagic won senior bronze medals at European championships in Titograd 1989 and Vienna 1990, and Goran Romic won silver medal at World championship in Mexico 1990.

After Croatian independence great successes began with Enver Idrizi. In period 1992-1995 he won 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze medals at World championships along with 2 gold and 2 silver medals at European championships. At the same time, Olivera Simic won bronze medal at the World championship, same as Milica Aljinovic at the European championship. Cadet Zoran Hok and junior Mladen Vulović won European bronze medal.

The story continues in 1997 with seniors Goran Romic and his European bronze medal and Lana Susovic with World silver medal. Cadet Alen Zamlic took European bronze medal.

Next year girls (Ines Branilovic, Lana Susovic, Lea Iskra i Ana Martina Bakic) brought us the first bronze medal in team competition at World senior championship in Brasil. In 1999 Junior Lefevre takes Croatian nationality and brings 2 golden medal from World senior championship and 1 from European junior championship. Same year Lana Susovic brings bronze medal at European senior championship, Nikola Dukic bronze medal at European cadet championship, Kristijan Novak bronze medal at World junior championship and Lea Iskra bronze medal at European senior championship.

Next year at European junior championship Nikola Dukic wins golden medal, Alen Zamlic, Kristijan Novak and Sanja Deroja are taking bronze medal. At European cadet championship Mirna Senjug and Nikola Adzija are taking silver medal. After that Junior Lefevre brings bronze medal from European senior championship and golden medal from World senior championship.

In 2001 sucesses continues. Milena Cekunec i Daniel Sivric won silver medal at European junior championship, cadets Nikola Adzija and Nikica Gulin golden medal, Nenad Vukobrat silver medal, Mirna Senjug bronze medal, junior female kata team bronze medal. Junior Lefevre brings another bronze medal from European senior championship, cadet Kresimir Trojnar silver medal, male team takes bronze in kumite just as female kata team at World junior championship.

Next year at European junior championship Mirna Senjug won silver medal, Nikola Dukic bronze medal, a cadet Jasmina Zede bronze medal. Junior Lefevre took silver medal at World senior championship. Female kata team (Senjug, Luksec, Grdic) won silver medal at European junior and bronze medal at European senior championship. Male kata team (Novak, Vacka, Bok) wpn bronze medal at World senior championship.

Total sum of 11 individual and 3 team medals marked 2003, the most sucessfull year in Croatian karate. Jelena Kovacic won golden medal at the world junior championship, silver medal at the European junio championship and bronze at the European senior championship. Mirna Senjug won silver medal at the European junior and bronze medal at the world junior championship. Petra Narandza won golden medal at the world junior championship and silver medal at the European senior championship. Junior Lefevre took 2 bronze medal and Kristijan Novak one medal at the European championship in Bremen. Maja Janković won bronze medal at the world junior championship. Female National Kata team took 2 bronze medals at the European senior and junior championship, and Male National Kumite team (Lefevre, Vucic, Mrzak, Sivric, Dukic, Maruna, Idrizi) bought us first senior bronze medal.

Jelena Kovacevic started year 2004 with golden medal at the European junior championship, Danil Domdjoni joined with bronze medal and cadet Ivan Gorjanc with silver medal. At the European senior championship Dario Svetic and Kristijan Novak won bronze medals, same as Alen Zamlic at the world senior championship. In kumite competitions female junior National team won bronze medal at the European championship. National Kata team (male and female) took bronze medals at the European senior championship.

National Team members added medals in this collection in 2005. At the European junior championship female Kumite team won golden medal and female Kata team bronze medal. The story repeated at the world junior championship, bronze medal for girls and silver medal for boys.
Rene Pernus won golden medal and Marko Lucic bronze medal at the European cadet championship. Petra Narandza won golden medal at the European senior championship and bronze medals at the European junior championship and the world junior championship. Bronze medals are won at European championship by junior Danil Domdjoni and senior Goran Lucin and also at world championship by junior Dijana Sales and cadet Ana Marija Celan.

Year 2006 brought us 11 individual and 4 team medals. At the European senior championship Jelena Kovacevic and Kristijan Novak won silver medals, Danil Domdjoni and Mirna Å enjug bronze medals. Marko Lucic won bronze medal at the World senior championship. At the European junior championship Tomislav Rrasidagic and Ivana Bebek won silver medal and Dijana Sales bronze medal. Cadets Alen Å urbek and Marko Lucic took silver medals, Rene Pernus bronze medal. Junior Kumite team (male and female) won bronze medal. At the European senior championship National Kata team (male and female) won bronze medal also.

Mirna Senjug is finally European senior champion in Bratislava 2007. At the same champonship Alen Zamlic won silver medal and Danil Domdjoni bronze medal, as year before. At the European junior championship Ivana Bebek won bronze medal, just as Ivana Ljubic and Matija Horvat in cadet competition. At the world championship cadets Maja Lenard and Matej Tomazin won bronze medals, just as boys and girls in junior Natinal Kumite team.

Last year was fantastic for our competitors. We were the 3rd nation in Europe at two European championships (senior in Tallinn and junior-cadet in Trieste) and the 9th nation at world championship in Tokyo. The Croatian anthem was played for 5 times. Mirna Senjug in Tallinu won golden medal again and silver medal with National Kata team (accompanied by Dzulijana Popovic and Valerija Vujcic). Danil Domdjoni won everithing he could, he was world and European champion. In addition, juniors made something rarely seen in karate sport – both Danil Domdjoni won everithing he could; he was world and European champion. At the same championship in Trieste cadets Damira Bujan and Josip Livada won bronze medal just like junior Goran Božić. Neven Martic won bronze medal in open category at the European senior championship. Ema Anicic finished year with bronze medal at the world senior championship in Tokyo.

This year started great. We are 3rd nation in Europe at the European junior cadet and U21 championship in Paris with 2 golden, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. Junior Damira Bujan won golden medal as Rene Pernus in U21 category. Cadet Anja PalÄić won silver medal, junior Ivona Tubic bronze medal. Another U21 bronze medals are won by Matej Tomazin and Ivana Goricaj.
What a imposing list of results! What will be in Zagreb? We expect and hope for the best competition till now and, of course, a large number of medals.
